My Journey with Indigo

Excerpt from My Journey with Indigo by Caroline Harper

I came to America from France and studied art at the University of South Carolina with a major in graphic design. For the next two decades, I dedicated myself to the corporate world, with all of its demands and intricacies. However, it was a transformative trip to Japan, specifically to study the art of traditional indigo dyeing, that truly opened my eyes to the captivating world of textiles and natural dyes. From that moment on, I never turned back, embark- ing on a new path that would shape my passion and career. In 2015, I made a bold decision to transition careers, leaving behind the confines of traditional employment to pursue my passion as a freelance artist. Little did I know that this leap of faith would eventually lead me down an unexpected path as a business owner. Along the way, I found myself delving into the art of growing indigo plants, meticulously extracting their vibrant pigments, and using them to dye natural materials. This newfound expertise became the foundation for my line of exquisite home and fashion accessories, blending artistry and sustainability in perfect harmony.

The success of my business can be attributed to a profound resurgence of interest in the enchanting hue of indigo, the art of natural dyeing, and the timeless beauty of handcrafted creations.
