Lowcountry Indigo Escape on Edisto Island, SC - NEW! September 24 to 29, 2026
September 24 to 29 - 2026
Join Caroline Harper and Raffaella Riva for a 5 night-4 day immersive indigo retreat on picturesque Edisto Island, SC. Our home for the retreat is a beautiful 5-bedroom house, just a stone's throw from the beach.
Indigo Immersion - from plant to art
Immerse yourself in the art and history of natural indigo dyeing during this inspiring four-day retreat on beautiful Edisto Island. Throughout the retreat, you’ll explore a variety of traditional and contemporary indigo techniques, including shibori, pounding, batik, and painting, and will create one-of-a-kind textiles and wearable art. Working with freshly harvested indigo, you’ll dye everything from napkins and wall hangings to luxurious silk scarves.
Caroline Harper from Fauzan Creations will guide participants through the fascinating process of extracting pigment from freshly harvested indigo plants and dyeing process. Raffaella Riva from Chi Design Indigo will discuss the history of indigo, traditional dyeing methods, and a variety of resist and embellishment techniques. As a bonus, participants will also enjoy an afternoon dedicated to natural dyeing and overdyeing with other plant-based colors.
You’ll not only take home beautiful, unique pieces created by you, but also gain a deeper appreciation for the art and beauty of natural dyes.
As part of the experience, we’ll take a special trip to the property where indigo is grown, along with a visit to the historic Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston. These visits offer a deeper connection to the indigo plant, its cultivation, and its rich historical significance.
